Highland Cattle for Sale in North Carolina and Tennessee

I've been raising registered AHCA Scottish Highland cattle since 2014, and I get a lot of messages from people looking for Highland cattle for sale in North Carolina and East Tennessee, so I wanted to put what I'd tell you in one place.

What We Sell

We sell registered Highlands to approved homes, and what we have depends on the time of year and what the herd gives us. That can mean breeding stock, show prospects, pet quality Highlands, frozen semen or embryos. Our calves stay with their mothers until they're weaned, so we don't sell bottle babies, and we don't sell or breed mini Highlands. You can read more about our calves on my Scottish Highland Calves page. If you're looking for semen from our bulls, you can find it on our Genetics page.

Before You Buy

Highlands are not the right breed for everyone, and I would rather you know that before you buy. They don't do well in hot, humid weather, so if you live somewhere that stays hot and muggy most of the year, they're probably not the breed for you. They're herd animals, so you need at least two, and I usually tell people to plan on at least an acre of productive pasture per cow. If you're buying a pet, a steer is honestly the best choice, and if there's ever a question about a bull calf, castrate. If you want an idea of what they cost, I wrote about what Highlands actually sold for at this year's Southeast Highland Cattle Show & Sale.

How to Buy From Us

The best way to start is to fill out the form on my Looking for Highland Cattle page and tell me about your farm and what you're looking for. If I don't have what you need, I'll do my best to point you in the right direction. You're also welcome to book a farm visit and meet the herd before you decide anything, which I think is a good idea for anybody buying their first Highlands.

More Highland Cattle for Sale

We're one farm, and we won't always have what everybody is looking for. That's a big part of why I co-founded HoofnHorn, a livestock marketplace where you can browse Highland cattle for sale from breeders across the country, read about their breeding, see the farm raising them and ask the seller questions before you bid.

Where We Are

Our farm is in Bakersville, North Carolina, right near the Tennessee line. We're about an hour from Asheville, Boone, Johnson City and Marion, and a couple hours from Charlotte and Knoxville.
